Refugee icon by Kelly Latimer

Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.’ Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, ‘Out of Egypt I have called my son.’

Matthew 2:13-15

Joseph had to drop everything and take his wife and new-born son to a strange country to escape persecution and possible death. People forget that Mary and Joseph with Jesus were refugees. In 2020, we have all had to adapt and change very quickly. Joseph didn’t hesitate, he did what was right for his family and trusted God.

Take a moment to think about and pray for all refugees, those who flee danger with their young families for a new life in a strange country.

We adore you O Christ and we bless you

Because by your Holy Nativity you have given us new birth
