Emily Stockton – Placement student
Some of you will remember Emily was with us over Easter this year. I’m delighted to say that she was accepted for ordination training and is now studying at St Hild College. We are going to be her ‘contextual placement parish’ for the next two years. This will mean she will help a bit at services, will preach and lead prayers and will be learning all about being a priest. Please make her feel welcome!

Bereavement services
We are approaching the season of remembrance. Our services this year will be:
On Sunday 1st November at 5pm we are having a Eucharist at St James, Barlborough at which the choir will be singing Fauré’s Requiem. On Monday 2nd November at 7pm there will be a simple memorial service at St John the Baptist, Clowne.  Names of loved ones will be read and there will be an opportunity to light a candle at both these services.

We are holding our usual Light of Life Christmas memorial services with Christmas carols in church this year:

Sunday 6th December 4.00pm St James, Barlborough
Tuesday 8th December 7.00pm St John the Baptist, Clowne

Forms for dedicating a light on the Christmas tree are available at the back of church. You can also make a dedication on the night.

Please consider joining the Parish Giving Scheme to give regularly if you do not already do so.

It costs money to run our churches, to pay for our clergy and keep the lights on, most of our income comes from your generosity!

Joining the Parish Giving Scheme
A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid. Once you set it up you can relax and not worry about bringing cash to church.

How to give
Set up a regular gift to the parish by calling the dedicated telephone line: 0333 002 1271. Tell them the parish code:

  • St John the Baptist, Clowne: 120612060
  • St James the Greater, Barlborough: 120612054

You can also set everything up online yourself by visiting: https://www.parishgiving.org.uk/

Here’s how you can help by joining the Parish Giving Scheme and giving by Direct Debit.

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid.

It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your cash gift piling up and we’re not worrying about loss of income – it’s a win win!
