The most moving, powerful week of the church calendar is upon us!
We begin Holy Week with our Palm Sunday services at 9.15am at Barlborough and 11am at Clowne at which we will hear the whole story of the Passion read to us. We will be joined at Clowne by Coco the donkey outside who will give rides to children after the service.
On Maundy Thursday we commemorate the Last Supper and are reminded of how Jesus washed his disciples’ feet by washing each others’ hands. This service will be at 7pm at Clowne and at the end of the service we will have silent prayer in the chapel (which represents the Garden of Gethsemane) until 10pm when we will say Compline (Night Prayer) together.
On Good Friday we will gather outside the Salvation Army at 10.45am and walk to B&M where there will be a short act of worship, a great witness to the whole village.
At 12.30pm there will be a service of Stations of the Cross at Clowne. At 2.30pm we have our Cross of Christ service – a series of readings and music for Good Friday at Barlborough.
On Holy Saturday we have my favourite service, the Easter Vigil at 8.30pm. We will light the Easter Fire and then light the Paschal Candle from it and carry it into the dark church to proclaim the resurrection. I will sing the first song of Easter, the ancient Exsultet and we will hear readings from the bible all pointing to the resurrection and we will renew our baptism vows. If you’ve never been to this service, I really encourage you to come along!
On Easter Day we will have our Festival Eucharist at 9.15am at Clowne and 11am at Barlborough.
I’m very much looking forward to journeying with you.
