Daily prayer on Monday 4th May (or Star Wars day – May the Fourth!)

Daily prayer on Monday 4th May (or Star Wars day – May the Fourth!)

Pray with us today, take a few minutes out of your day – why not listen on your daily exercise or while you’re doing the dishes?

Opening Sentences

O Lord, open our lips

and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

In your resurrection, O Christ,

let heaven and earth rejoice. Alleluia.

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us;

let us pray with one heart and mind.

Pause for reflection as you offer the day to God.

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,

so may the light of your presence, O God,

set our hearts on fire with love for you;

now and for ever. Amen.

Bible Readings

Psalm 121

1    I lift up my eyes to the hills;

from where is my help to come?

2    My help comes from the Lord,

the maker of heaven and earth.

3    He will not suffer your foot to stumble;

he who watches over you will not sleep.

4    Behold, he who keeps watch over Israel

shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5    The Lord himself watches over you;

the Lord is your shade at your right hand,

6    So that the sun shall not strike you by day,

neither the moon by night.

7    The Lord shall keep you from all evil;

it is he who shall keep your soul.

8    The Lord shall keep watch over your going out

and your coming in,

from this time forth for evermore.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.” This is my message for you.’ So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Matthew 28:5-8

Prayers

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father,

who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

the power and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen.

The Conclusion

May the risen Christ grant us the joys of eternal life.

Amen.

Let us bless the Lord. Alleluia, alleluia.

Thanks be to God. Alleluia, alleluia.
