Our Rector is the Rev’d Bryony Taylor MA.
Bryony hails from Southend on Sea in Essex, but has lived all her adult life in the North of England after going to University in Leeds.
Bryony trained for the ministry at Cranmer Hall, was ordained in 2014 and served her curacy in Houghton-le-Spring in Durham Diocese. She has been Rector of Barlborough and Clowne since 2018. Before ordination, Bryony worked as a social media consultant and found these skills coming in handy in the pandemic. She helped many churches to go online during that period to reach people who couldn’t get to church.
Bryony is interested in popular culture and its interface with faith. She is a self-confessed telly addict and wrote a book More TV Vicar? (DLT, 2016) about the portrayal of Christians on television. She can sometimes be heard on BBC radio talking about television and faith.
Bryony is a passionate parish priest and particularly enjoys working with schools and young people. Her previous career involved museum education and she likes to find connections between arts and heritage and faith.
In her spare time Bryony enjoys trips to the cinema, walking and travelling with her husband, Paul, and mosaic making.
Bryony is Assistant Area Dean of North Derbyshire Deanery in the Diocese of Derby. She is also an Honorary Canon of Derby Cathedral.
